Prince of Persia On The Big Screen – A Must See or Not?

Prince of Persia is a 90′s PC game. It is an action/adventure type of genre. I was first introduced with this game when my parents bought me a 386 Intel PC from a Save on Surplus (SOS) Computer Store. It was a desktop then. I still haven’t seen the tower PCs outside school premises before but as soon as I got a PC, I was instantly dove on the games that was included on it. Prince of Persia was one of them.

As soon as I played the game, I instantly was overwhelmed with the storyline, gameplay, and animations. And so that was the time I started to follow the game’s franchise. From PCs, the game went to consoles such as PlayStation PS1-3. Now, they made a movie out of it.

As soon as I heard that Prince of Persia will be shown on the big screen, I was so eager to see it. You see, every gamer, whether on PC or on any console games, dreams of having one of his favorite games shown to the big screen. And I am one of them.

Last night, me and my wife saw the movie. I was so excited to watch it but after the movie ended, all I was left to say were…”Yun lang?!

I was disappointed. Disappointed for the fact that the movie lacks intensity. Lacks powerful introduction voice-over. Lacks storyline. Lacks powerful fight scenes. Lacks intensive actions. And most of all, it lacks the acrobatic finesse which the game introduced. The wall climb, the wall run, the pole swinging. Though seen in some of the scenes , these weren’t shown magnificently. Kulang na kulang.

Another is the time travel when the dagger of time was pressed. Although they have artistically shown how the Prince controlled time, they haven’t shown the true power of the dagger as well as its usefulness to the Prince. They should’ve shown more action scenes using the dagger. Something like the Prince used the dagger to go back in time and save his ass after accidentally fell from the cliff. The only dagger scene I liked in the movie is when they were attacked by snakes. That’s all.

In any case, all I can say about the movie is just OK. Not a WOW! Not even a “astig-uulitin-ko-ulit-panonoorin-ito” kind of feeling.

So, is it a must see in a big screen or not? I must say, it’s NOT.  I don’t mind just watching this in a small screen. ‘Coz it’s just not that good. Probably because it’s a Disney movie? I don’t know.

di bale dami pa naman na new upcoming movies na i’m sure maganda..aside from “The Karate Kid” and “The Twilight saga:Eclipse” na inaabangan ko talaga!

Yung “The Karate Kid” inaabangan ko din yan. Not so sa twilight. Hehe.

I want to start blogging too, what do you think, which blog cms is good for beginner?

Try WordPress. That is the one I am using now.

I think the movie is great!! I’ll give 2 thumbs up when little and Big Jake doing the Parkour moves… The simplicity of these moves gives value to its definition. and they don’t uses stunts for doing it.

Yeah but that’s just about it. The moves in the movie is so simple. You can’t even feel the intensity while doing the moves. The director just did a slow-mo shot to cover the lame moves. What they should’ve done is train the actor by a street jumper. Watch the below video.

Well, thats Parkour… you don’t do the tricks while battling for your life. The moves should be in the most efficient way to overcome obstacles and that’s the reality. I think a not well trained person can’t do what Jake does in the movie… Those moves needs proper training even it is simple as you see..
David Belle who trained Jake and other actors in the movie want to show us that efficiency and practicality are coincide in real situation.

But you’re missing the point. The point why in the first place appeal people to watch this movie is the story line, the stunts, and the plot – of the Game. And this movies showed less from the game itself. I am not saying dapat gayang gaya from the game however they should’ve done more and much better.

Regarding the move (Parkour or whatever it is), the prince uses this stunts to survive, conquer obstacles and fight. He is using this tricks to do all of these. But in the movie…hindi maganda pagkaka-execute nila. The way they execute it was like you’re watching Pinoy fight scene where you know where the punches will go next and you’ll notice that the punches are fake. Not like those martial art scenes that you see like Jackie Chan or Jet Li do.

The bottomline is….kulang sa lahat ng aspect ng movie and that they should’ve done much much better. And that I could watch it in my laptop or in my TV screen without missing anything compared to watching it in a big screen.

Well, maybe I’m disagreeing because I don’t play the game or haven’t seen it but for me as a practitioner of Parkour I watched it with “wow” to the moves and how the movie ends.

I played the game and watching the movie, kulang nga. Mas cinematic pa mga sequences sa game.

Yup. One of the things na gusto ko gawin. Hehe.

Prince of Persia is definitely one of the best movies this year.’-;

Prince of Persia has definitely great graphics and storyline. Jake is also the best actor for this movie.*”*
